Addiction damages a person in all parts of the being: there are physical, emotional, and spiritual tolls. At Caron, it’s our mission to treat the whole person, and our idea of physical treatment doesn’t just mean getting (and keeping) drugs and alcohol out of the body. We’re here to help people get well and healthy, and that includes developing physical fitness.
We incorporate recreational activities into every person’s treatment plan, with a wide range of exercise and fitness activities intended to help you or your loved one cope with the physical and emotional stresses of addiction.
Our fitness offerings are somewhat different at each location, so we’ve described them separately below.
Health and Wellness at Caron Renaissance
Everyone at Caron Renaissance is encouraged to participate in recreational activities such as swimming, fitness training, and yoga. While they’re here at Caron, many people rediscover a love for activities they had once enjoyed, and often learn to enjoy new activities, too. Our health and wellness programs incorporate the following components:
- massage therapy
- physical therapy
Health and Wellness at Caron Pennsylvania
The Caron Pennsylvania facility has a stand-alone, state-of-the-art fitness center, which includes a full-sized gymnasium for organized recreation like volleyball and basketball and an indoor challenge course for adventure-based counseling. It also has a weight training and exercise studio, with experienced instructors on staff. Patients visit the fitness center almost daily during their treatment stay.
Off-Site Recreation at Caron Pennsylvania
Recreational activities also include off-site trips where patients bond as a community and have the opportunity to ease back into real-life experiences to support their Recovery for Life. These activities vary by program and range from day trips off campus to overnight retreats. Adventure programming is a cornerstone of the off-site program. Depending on the season, offerings may include:
- white water rafting
- bicycle rides
- camping trips and retreats
- indoor rock climbing
Members of our certified recreational staff join in on these activities, and afterward lead group discussions about the experience. This is a good time to talk about any feelings of insecurity, anxiety, or triggers anyone may have had while off-campus.
